What a thrilling few days of TrustSwap announcements it has been! We are very excited that we were able to share so many huge updates with you.
Today, we’re talking about NFTs.
An NFT (Non-fungible Token) is a digital asset that resides on the Blockchain, just like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The main difference is that for example, Bitcoins are interchangeable, meaning when it comes to value and uniqueness, there is virtually no difference between my Bitcoins or yours. However, non-fungible means unique, which distinguishes them from regular Cryptocurrency.
An NFT can represent digital art, photos, audio, videos, audio, and many other types of digital files. Their properties and uniqueness are stored on a public ledger, the blockchain, which can be considered an immutable certificate of authenticity and ownership.
There are many reasons people want to buy an NFT, for example, to own an original piece of their favorite artist, athlete, or celebrity, to use inside a blockchain online game, collect and trade, or use as an investment. In addition, an emerging trend is buying NFTs that act as a voucher for a physical item, art piece, or service.
TrustSwap believes that NFTs play a significant role in the crypto ecosystem. So much so that we designed, developed, and launched Swappable – a new community-driven NFT interface launched by TrustSwap.
Taking NFTs to the Next Level
Our aim is to bring NFTs to the next level – shifting the focus from memes to Fine Art created by the world’s current and future top artists.
The inaugural Swappable NFT drop created by Jani Leinonen, an acclaimed Finnish Visual artist, was a huge success and sold for $22,000. His following drop – a series of only 21 NFTs – was heavily oversubscribed with more than 1200 SWAP stakers quickly acquiring 6440 entry tickets in the hope of owning 1 of the 21 available NFTs.
The current NFT drop on Swappable “Reaching for the Stars”, a rare high-quality digital and physical lithography piece, depicts the history and the future of South Africa, the organizing country of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and is autographed by the players and coaches from both finals teams, is currently standing at $106,734.24.
The viability of NFT’s as legitimate art industry pieces was also highlighted earlier this year with the sale of Beeple’s digital artwork at Christie’s for more than $69M.
Fine art and NFT technology, a collaboration
